Who Does Fog Coating in Malibu?

Carol reached out with a question about finding a stucco contractor in Southern California for fog coating work...

Question (from Carol)
Thanks for all your great advice and detailed website. But we need to find a stucco contractor who can do fogging. (We have color coated stucco.) Do you know anyone in Southern California – Malibu area that does this work?

Traditional Stucco Finish Needing a Fog Coat

Answer: For those who don't know... Fog coating is a great choice for refreshing or evening out the look of color-coated stucco, especially when you want to avoid paint. Unlike paint, which creates a film on the surface, fog coat is a cement-based product that actually bonds with the stucco itself, so the finish looks natural and still breathes. It’s most often sprayed on in a fine mist, giving a soft, uniform color while letting the original stucco texture show through.

As for contractors in the Malibu area, I don’t personally recommend or endorse specific companies, but here’s how you can find the right fit:

  1. Search locally with the right terms. Look up “stucco fog coating contractor Malibu” or “fog coat stucco Southern California”. Some companies may list it as “stucco color refresh” or “cement fog coating”.

  2. Ask the right questions. Not every stucco company offers fog coating, so when you call around, ask specifically if they do fog coats (not paint). Ask about the process they typically have for this kind of work. Will they pressure wash the walls first in order to prep them properly? Will they cover everything meticulously, as it is sprayed on and can get a bit messy.

  3. Confirm the color match. Bring up whether you want the same shade reapplied or if you’re looking to shift to a slightly different tone. An experienced contractor will be able to answer your questions without hesitation if they have experience doing fog coating.

*** Keep in mind that fog coating works best for refreshing or evening out the existing color, and making a major color change isn’t always possible with this method.

If you follow those steps, you should be able to find someone in Malibu or nearby areas who can handle the job. Since fog coating is less common than painting, it may take a few calls, but once you connect with the right stucco contractor, you’ll get a long-lasting and natural-looking finish.
